Monday Harvest Report – November 2, 2015

Well, the summer garden is all finished!

I pulled out the last of the warm season veggies this week.  We have had an extremely mild fall, in fact we still haven’t had a really “hard” frost.  This week we had a couple of cold nights that had some light spotty frost, but we have yet to have a night below 32 degrees, which is very strange for us!!  But you won’t hear me complaining too much, this warm fall extended our tomato, cucumber, bean and zucchini harvest by over a month!

Now it’s time to move on to the slower part of the harvest year.  We still have some broccoli and kale to harvest from the fall garden, but most of our harvest for the rest of the year will come from the cold frames, carrots, lettuce, spinach and a little later on Mache!

We had a respectable harvest of broccoli this week.  3 smaller heads that totaled 1.75 pounds.  The mild fall is making for a very nice broccoli harvest this year.  We have already harvest more than we ever have before and we still have several heads to harvest along with side shoots!

This was the last of the zucchini for the year.  I can’t say I’m sad to see this go, we have had a lot of zucchini this year!

This basket is the last of the beans and cucumbers along with a few tiny bell peppers.

Not pictured this week are the 2 pounds of basil and parsley that we harvested.  About 1/2 was dried and put in winter storage.  The other 1/2 went to neighbors as we had all we needed.  I also found a few carrots that I had forgotten I had even planted, they were over large but still edible.  And we also went through the raspberry patch a few times and managed to find another 1/2 pound of berries.

This weeks totals:
Cucumbers – 2 lbs
Zucchini – 6.5 lbs
Broccoli – 1.75 lbs
Beans – .50 lbs
Peppers – .75 lbs
Herbs – 2 lbs
Carrots – 1.50 lbs
Berries – .50 lbs
Total – 15.50 lbs

That brings our annual home garden total to 679 pounds and the combined garden total to 1038.25 lbs. I’m sure we will make it to 700 pounds from the home garden this year, which is about average for us, not exceptional, but not too bad!

I will be sharing this post today on the Monday Harvest Report over at

Go broccoli! We’ve had a freeze here but it’s been mild lately. The fall veggies are loving the weather!

It is that time of year, isn’t it. I’ll be picking the rest of my broccoli this week too – I’ve already harvested all the main heads and many side shoots, so any extras we get this week will be a real bonus.
