This happened to me. It turned out to be earwigs. I put out traps…small containers with cheap cooking oil and soy sauce and tuna oil. The first night I trapped about 50 in one 4×8 raised bed!

In reply to Mills Tuttle. July is a little early for them in zone 7a. Get them planted about 8 weeks before your first frost.

In reply to Arlene Johnson. If an open bed, sure sounds like a rabbit or ground squirrel. If happening at night, a pack rat could be the culprit. After having this happen to me too many times I bought a trail camera and i saw the culprit..you may wanna do same.

It is almost July. I live in zone 7a and I want to put in some new veggies in my garden. I was wondering if you were suggesting starting bush beans, summer squash, cukes,and collards from
seeds or plants.

Rick, something is eating my chard and beet greens. I have looked all around the leaves and cannot find anything that could be doing it. I do have a few ants in the bed, but I sprinkled cinnamon around the plants, but that didn’t seem to make any difference. All of my new sprouting chard and beet leaves are being eaten down to the ground. I have a very fine mesh covering the raised (off the ground) bed. Any ideas??? Please help.
