Filling Wall O Waters A Quick Tip

April 11, 2019 //  by Rick//  1 Comment

A Wall O Water is a great little garden gadget that you can use to extend your growing season.  Filling Wall O Waters can be a bit of a pain so here’s a quick garden hack that will help you fill them easily.

We like to use Walls of Water to extend our growing season for several different warm season garden crops.  Over the years we have used them to get different squashes, peppers and of course tomatoes growing earlier.  The concept behind a Wall O Water is that they provide a thermal barrier at night when temperatures are freezing to protect your crop.  In the day time, they warm up and act as a mini greenhouse to provide an extra warm growing environment for your tomatoes and other warm season crops.

If you would like to learn more about using Wall O Waters in your garden you can check out this post that even includes a video explaining what a great option Wall O Waters can be in the spring.

Filling Wall O Waters

Filling Walls of Water can be a bit of a pain.  Here’s a quick bit of gardening advice that has saved me a ton of frustration over the years!  Have you ever tried filling walls of water by hand!  It can be a very frustrating and wet job!  So here’s the trick to filling them easier.

I even filmed a video on filling Wall O Waters a couple of years ago, you can watch it below:

This tip for filling Wall O Waters is pretty clever,  I wish I could take credit for it but someone years back pointed the idea out to me.

Filling Wall O Waters

Simply put the Wall-O-Water around a 5-gallon bucket!  The bucket keeps the Wall-O-Water standing up straight and makes it easy to fill and move to the garden!  Once you have the Walls of Water around the bucket just use a garden hose to fill each individual cell.  The bucket will keep the Wall O water standing and you won’t need 8 extra arms to hold it up while you fill.

I wish I could remember who it was that gave me this tip for filling walls of water in the first place because it has saved me a lot of wet feet over the years!! 🙂

What a great idea! My “wall of water” arrives tomorrow just before our freeze hits Friday night!
